Offering a unique and unparalleled vacation destination, Trails Inn Quadna Mountain Motel & RV Campground is a long-standing establishment located in Hill City, a picturesque town in North Central Minnesota. It was entrusted to new owners, Shawn and Jessica Pehrson, in 2023.

Growing up in the Upper Midwest, the Pehrsons loved family traditions of fishing, snowmobiling, camping, hunting, riding ATVs, and exploring the great outdoors with family and friends.

They are long-time Minnesotans, rooted in the Aitkin County community. They are not just familiar with the charm and beauty of Hill City; they are a part of it. Intertwined with the community’s values and aspirations, their love for its people and the area’s natural beauty formed their vision for Trails Inn's future.

Shawn possesses outstanding mechanical aptitude and can always turn an idea into an opportunity to build something of value. With a developing entrepreneurial spirit as a young man, he loved refurbishing and repairing older and damaged cars and other collectibles.

Over the past several years, he has traveled extensively, enjoying visiting different cities, meeting new people, and experiencing new cultures. Later, he developed outstanding business acumen and sales skills as a successful Farmers Insurance Agency Owner and Operator. He then started buying and selling real estate and managing rental properties. Eventually, he founded a boat appraisal business offering damage inspection services, insurance, condition, and valuation surveys.

His diverse experience, skills, and proven track record as a trusted businessman make him a confident and capable owner, operator, leader, and visionary for Trails Inn Quadna Mountain Motel & RV Campground.

Jessica is a Registered Nurse who works for Solventum (formerly 3M) as a clinical expert in advanced and acute wound care. She has a passion for caring for people, outstanding customer service, time management, and understanding good business management.

These skills, along with her and Shawn’s love for people and the hospitality industry, have been the recipe for their success in property management, business development and for the exciting future of the Trails Inn establishment.

The entire staff at Trails Inn Quadna is committed to providing a warm and welcoming environment and the perfect place to create unforgettable memories!

Once a logging community situated on Morrison Brook (near what is now the intersection of Hwy 169 and 200), Hill City owes its very name and existence to the natural beauty surrounding it. At the southern end of Hill Lake stands a large hill called Quadna Mountain. Presumably, the mountain and lake were formed at the same time. The mountain is the namesake of Hill City, which the Ojibway or Chippewa Native Americans called “Pikwadina” or “Piquadinaw”, which translates to “It Is Hilly”.

Annual and seasonal residents say that it’s their people, their detailed work ethic, their gift of hospitality, their friendly faces, their pride in the town’s rich history, the surrounding natural beauty, and a strong sense of community that inspires and beckons them to return year after year. Permanent residents of Hill City say they wouldn’t live anywhere else!
